Education Research & Insights
We build our tutoring methods on learning science. Here is the research thinking behind how we teach.
What the Evidence Says
- One-on-one tutoring consistently ranks among the highest-impact educational interventions in effectiveness research.
- Retrieval practice (testing yourself) outperforms re-reading for long-term retention.
- Spaced repetition beats massed cramming across virtually all subjects.
- Immediate feedback — the core advantage of live tutoring — accelerates error correction dramatically.
How We Apply It
Our tutors structure lessons around active problem solving with immediate feedback, and our study materials are built for retrieval practice rather than passive reading. Read practical applications on our blog.
Research Across Subjects and Levels
The same evidence base drives how we tutor maths, science, accounting and statistics at every level — from Grade 8 foundations through matric (Grade 12) NSC exam preparation to university modules like calculus and research methods. Past papers work because they are retrieval practice; spaced revision plans work because memory decays predictably. Our study material and online tutoring sessions are engineered around both, whether the goal is a matric distinction or graduating with a strong degree.

Book a LessonResearch That Informs Our Teaching
Tutor People's research page collects the evidence behind how we tutor: studies on spaced repetition, retrieval practice and worked examples; South African matric pass-rate and university admission statistics; and our own anonymised lesson data on which topics Grade 10–12 learners find hardest in mathematics, physical sciences and accounting.
How We Use It
Findings feed directly into our tutoring method, our study guides and the advice we publish on the blog — so every recommendation we make to a learner, from study-plan structure to past-paper strategy, is grounded in evidence rather than habit.
